SigBench Privacy Policy

SigBench is a crowdsourced mobile-network measurement app. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what the app collects, what it does not collect, how the data is used, and the controls you have. We designed the app to collect network-quality metrics without any personal information.

1. Who we are

SigBench is operated by the project owner reachable at support@sigbench.com. This policy covers the SigBench Android application and the SigBench service (api.sigbench.com and sigbench.com).

2. What we collect

The app collects data only while signal logging is switched on. It samples roughly every 30 seconds:

Category	What it is
Radio measurements	Signal strength and quality (RSRP, RSRQ, SINR/RSSNR, CQI), serving and neighbouring cell identifiers (PCI, band, channel, cell ID), operator code (PLMN/MCC-MNC), timing advance, radio technology (LTE/5G), and service state (in-service / no-service / emergency-only).
Location	The approximate or precise location of each measurement, and its accuracy. Location comes from battery-friendly network positioning or, if another app has it active, GPS.
Performance	Passive throughput (data volume during the window), latency, jitter, packet loss, and any speed tests you run.
Voice quality (proxy)	Basic call events derived from call state only: whether a call connected and its duration, to estimate setup success and drops. We never read your call log, phone numbers, contacts, or call audio.
Device identifier	A random, app-generated install ID (a UUID). It is not linked to you, your phone number, IMEI, Google account, or advertising ID.

3. What we do NOT collect

No name, email, or account is required to contribute data.
No phone number, IMEI, IMSI, SIM serial, or advertising ID.
No contacts, SMS, call log, or call/audio content.
No photos, files, microphone, or camera access.

Dashboard accounts (for people who view analytics, not app contributors) store an email and a securely hashed password only.

4. How we use the data

To build coverage maps, operator and broadband benchmarks, and estimated cell-site locations.
To identify weak-coverage, congestion, dead-zone, and dropped-call areas that help mobile operators and infrastructure companies plan and improve networks.
Aggregated, non-identifying statistics may be shared with, or sold to, mobile network operators, tower companies, and similar infrastructure partners.

We do not sell raw individual data, and because no personal identifiers are collected, the data cannot reasonably be traced back to you.

5. Legal basis & consent

Collection happens only after you agree to these terms and switch logging on. You may withdraw at any time (Section 7). We process data on the basis of your consent and our legitimate interest in improving mobile networks.

6. Sharing & storage

Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS and stored on our server (currently hosted in Singapore). We share only aggregated statistics with partners as described above. We do not share data with advertisers.

7. Your controls

Stop anytime: turn off logging in the app to stop all collection immediately.
Uninstall: removing the app stops collection and deletes the local install ID.
Deletion requests: because data is tied only to an anonymous install ID, email us that ID (shown in the app's history screen) and we will delete the associated records.

8. Data retention

Raw measurements are retained to support historical coverage analysis and may be aggregated into summary statistics over time. On the device, local history older than 30 days is automatically pruned.

9. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

10. Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
